Churches in Churchville
Throughout its history, the community of Churchville has formed five significant congregations. Most of the early settlers in the area were Methodist, with American immigrants stablishing a Methodist Episcopal congregation. Settlers from Britain generally subscribed to Weslyan Methodism. There was a Primitive Methodist congregation in the village as well.
In the mid 1830s, disillusioned with the way that Canadian Methodism was increasingly dominated by the British church, a large portion of Churchville's population converted to the new Latter Day Saints movement. Churchville played an important part in the formation of the LDS church in Canada and members of the village congregation played significant roles in the church's early history.
Near the end of the 19th Century, the Anglican population of the area established their own congregation and built St. John's Anglican church on the southern banks of the Credit.
